Summary
On November 12, 1957, a civilian observer north of Hurley, New Mexico saw a round object about the size of a dime held at arm's length. The object was bright red. Small stars appeared to shoot out from the back end of it.
The observer watched as the object climbed toward the northeast until it disappeared from view. The sighting lasted between 60 and 90 seconds. An investigator noted that the object's behavior and appearance were characteristic of an aircraft with an afterburner (a jet engine feature that produces extra thrust and a bright flame).
The Air Force classified this case as unidentified. The case file is 8 pages as held by the National Archives.
