Project Blue Book Case File
Muskogee, OklahomaJune 1954
Summary
The Air Force received photographs of an unusual flying object in June 1954 from a civilian photographer in the Lincolnwood, Illinois area. The photographer reported taking two pictures with different cameras, including one with a telescopic lens. He initially had trouble getting them developed and eventually submitted them to Project Blue Book in May 1957, asking that the Air Force return the original negatives along with any records on similar sightings.
The photographs showed what appeared to be a round object with windows or markings. According to the project card, Air Force analysts noted that the photos appeared to be fake. The case file also references two related photographic cases from the same time period, one in Moorsville, Indiana and another in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Both involved photographs of flying objects. A note indicates that Dr. J. Allen Hynek, the project's scientific consultant, was asked to evaluate at least the Moorsville case.
The Air Force evaluated the photographs, made copies of the negatives for study, but noted that due to their age and lack of supporting information, it would be difficult to reach a firm conclusion about what the objects were. The file shows the Air Force returned the original negatives to the photographer and sent along a summary of events and a press release.
