Summary

On the afternoon of October 26, 1959, a civilian mortician in Mobile, Alabama, saw a single object for about three seconds. He was looking over some trees near Government Street and Washington Avenue.

The object was large and round with a tail like a comet, about the size of a half dollar. It was silver with a whitish glow, and its trailing tail was about 10 times the length of the object. It first appeared at about a 60 degree elevation looking southwest. The object fell in an arc, moving from southwest to northeast, then took a sharp plunge toward the earth and disappeared almost instantly. The weather was good with clear skies.

No other witnesses could be located. The Air Force concluded the description and speed were typical of a meteor. The card lists the case as astronomical, a meteor. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
