Summary

On July 19, 1960, a U.S. Air Force senior master sergeant saw an object near Misawa Air Base, Japan, at about 7:35 p.m. local time. The sighting was made from a taxicab and lasted about 6 seconds. The object was brilliant white with a bluish tint and was about the size of the evening star. No tail was seen. There was no sound. It moved slower than a shooting star and seemed to drop straight down. It was about 10 degrees above the horizon and dropped slowly below it. The sky was mostly clear. The Air Force concluded the sighting was astronomical, a possible daytime meteor.
