Project Blue Book Case File
Miami Beach, FloridaJune 1949
Summary
On June 14, 1949, around 2015 (8:15 p.m.), a man, his wife, and his children saw two objects in the sky while lying on the beach at Miami Beach, Florida. The night was clear with stars and small scattered clouds, still and quiet.
The man said he first saw what looked like a falling star almost directly overhead. It had a trail and fell to the west southwest. His daughter then saw a second one behind and to the left of the first. The two objects moved together and apart several times, almost touching four times. They lost their trails as they neared each other and were as bright as a medium star. They were in sight about seven or eight seconds.
The man, a former Marine, said they were not planes, birds, or ground lights. The Air Force record card lists the conclusion as astronomical (meteor). A letter back to the writer said the object appeared to be of natural celestial origin. The file also includes a separate La Jolla, California, sighting from June 17, 1949, of a round chromium colored object.
