Summary

On June 3, 1958, between about 9:00 and 9:30 p.m., in Marshalltown, Iowa, an object struck the roof of a trailer home. A civilian reported that when it hit, it sounded like a loud rifle shot, and afterward he found many fragments, keeping the largest piece. He and his wife first thought it was a piece of a meteor, then sent it to the Air Force for study after a radio broadcast about a Soviet satellite. The fragment was checked and found to be completely non-radioactive. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the object was volcanic debris.
