Project Blue Book Case File
Marrowbore Lake, Tenn., March 1950March 1950
Summary
On March 29, 1950, around 7 a.m., two real estate salesmen fishing on Marrowbone Lake near Nashville, Tennessee, reported a group of objects. The lake is about 18 miles from Nashville. They said between six and twelve dark objects flew in over the lake through a gap in the hills at the southeast end, at an altitude of 200 to 300 feet, then circled behind the hills on the west side while steadily losing altitude.
The witnesses described the objects as black, round, heavy looking, about five feet long, resembling a 300 pound bomb. The objects made a noise like wind blowing through the trees. No motors were visible. They flew fairly close together, turned together, and were estimated to be moving at least 500 miles per hour. The men said they were frightened and reported the sighting to the lake superintendent.
The report came through Army channels with a newspaper clipping. A spokesman at a nearby Air Force base said the objects could not have been jet planes, based on the description and weather. The Air Force record (Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports) noted the case but the card conclusion is not clearly stated in the file.
