Project Blue Book Case File
Liberty, MissouriApril 1956
Summary
On April 1, 1956, a 14-year-old witness at Liberty, Missouri, reported many objects near the planet Venus. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The account came in by letter.
The witness said about 1,500 objects were near Venus and thought they were 50 to 100 miles from the planet. He said little lights always appeared around Venus when he looked at it. One large object, round, white with a blue tinge, and said to be 100 feet across, stayed still for 15 to 20 minutes. The objects were seen toward the northwest.
The Air Force called the report unreliable. The record said the estimate of size and distance was not believable, since nothing 100 feet across on Venus could be seen through a small telescope. It noted the witness was 14 years old.
