Project Blue Book Case File
Kit Carson, Colo., September 1950September 1950
Summary
On September 20, 1950, about 10:49 a.m., a driver between Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, reported five objects in the sky. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witness, called reliable, described the objects as fire balls or flying saucers. Two were fairly large, about 3 to 7 feet across, saucer shaped or spherical, and looked like masses of glowing molten metal. They hovered at about 500 feet for roughly a minute, then crossed the road at about 200 miles per hour. As they crossed, three smaller objects came from behind the two larger ones and lined up with them. All five then sped up sharply, turned toward the vertical, and shot away at a speed judged near 2,000 miles per hour before disappearing.
A truck driver who had stopped to watch also saw the objects. The headquarters noted no further investigation was planned.
