Project Blue Book Case File
Jonesville, LouisianaNovember 1950
Summary
On November 5, 1950, near Jonesville, Louisiana, members of a farm family reported objects in the sky. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The source was a newspaper account.
A family cook first saw the objects about 11:45 a.m. and ran inside. Six family members went outside to see what they described as a saucer that had risen to about 50 feet. One witness said the objects were so bright and shiny he could not tell their shape or size. As the family watched, the objects went up to the northwest. There were twin exhausts like those of jet planes, but the exhausts did not stay parallel. The objects took their time and disappeared in about five minutes. The vapor trail looked red, then bluish, near the end.
The wider report also describes other Louisiana sightings near New Orleans. The Air Force listed its conclusion as insufficient data for evaluation, noting the objects were most likely aircraft contrails.
