Project Blue Book Case File
Jacksonville, Fla., July 1950July 1950
Summary
On July 1, 1950, around 5 a.m., a newspaper reporter in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, Florida, reported seeing strange objects in the sky. The witness was a female civilian, and the file is built mostly from newspaper clippings forwarded by the Army.
The reporter said she was woken by a tremendous roar, unlike the steady sound of bombers or the whine of a jet. She looked out and saw a large object at about 300 feet, glowing with a light that surged with the roaring sound. It curved toward the northwest, showing violet flashes and a short comet like tail, and seemed to waver up and down. She said she saw three such objects over about a 15 minute span.
Later clippings describe other Jacksonville residents seeing similar lit objects, estimated at 20 to 30 feet across. A separate clipping describes a daytime shiny round object over the courthouse. The Air Force record card does not give a single firm conclusion for this case.
