Project Blue Book Case File
Indian House Lake, Canada, January 1949January 1949
Summary
On the night of January 15, 1949, personnel at Indian House Lake in Canada reported seeing a bright light streak across the sky at extremely high speed. The observers only saw the light itself, not any solid object behind it. The sighting lasted an unspecified amount of time, though it was apparently brief.
The report came to the U.S. Air Force through the 1305 AACS Group at Fort McAndrew in Newfoundland. Those who witnessed the event, or who received the initial report, concluded that what they saw was probably a shooting star or meteor. The light traveled so fast that it drew immediate attention, and it was not seen again after the initial sighting.
An Air Force analyst reviewing the case concluded that the object observed appeared to have been a fireball, a type of particularly bright meteor. The file does not indicate any further investigation or analysis beyond this assessment.
