Summary

On April 27, 1956, a civilian at Greensboro, North Carolina, reported three objects at about 9:20 p.m. The report came in by letter and was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witness first saw one bright silver object with no sound or tail flash across the sky. It was thought to be a shooting star, but it was too close, had no tail, and was bigger, about the size of a baseball. It seemed to land nearby. This object was in view about three seconds. The witness then saw two copper-colored objects in parallel flight, holding the same relative position. They had no red and green lights and were assumed to be at great altitude. These were in view about five minutes.

The Air Force concluded the first object was a meteor. It said the two copper objects did not conflict with an aircraft analysis, since their duration and flight were consistent with that finding.
