Summary
On December 6, 1950, near Fort Myers, Florida, civilians reported a flying object. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The source was a newspaper account.
A man who said he was a former wartime airplane purchasing agent reported that a 75 foot silver object with welded seams and four jets hovered over the north side of the area for about seven minutes, around 5 p.m. He said he and four boys, one his son, spotted it at about 3,000 feet and that he looked at it through 10 power binoculars. He described it as 14 feet thick at the middle and 3 feet at the edges, with a revolving center. The moving part's boundary was orange and the rim was red. On the edge were four jets, two white and two orange. He said he could see no occupants and that the object then disappeared to the northwest faster than any airplane.
The record card lists two witnesses and gives an estimated altitude of 3,000 feet.
