Summary
On May 5, 1959, civilian witnesses near Freiburg, Germany, reported a bright object in the night sky. The sighting was about 10:29 p.m. (2229 GMT) and the duration was not given. The information was reported through naval intelligence channels.
A weather station observer saw a shining yellow ball surrounded by a greenish halo, moving at about 600 to 800 km per hour from north-northwest to south-southeast. Two other people also saw it. About the same time, a young American couple in Freiburg saw a disklike object that appeared like a shooting star, then changed direction and went out of sight at high speed. They described it as shining white with a slight yellow shimmer.
The Air Force record card noted that, due to the limited information, the report could not be properly evaluated.
