Summary

On August 22, 1956, a civilian in Fountain, Colorado, reported a single object. The sighting was recorded at 1050Z and lasted about thirty-five minutes. It disappeared after sunrise.

The witness described one round object with a number of points that later disappeared, leaving a tear-shaped object. It was about the size of a silver dollar held at arm's length. The object was much brighter than a star and had the same color. It was first seen at about 90 degrees azimuth and 45 degrees elevation.

The Air Force said the characteristics matched the planet Venus. The evaluation was astronomical (Venus).
