Summary
On Friday, September 12, 1952, near Flatwoods, West Virginia, witnesses observed an unidentified object in the sky. The object traveled from about 30 degrees north of east to 30 degrees south of west at an angle of about 20 degrees from the horizontal. The sighting lasted 5 to 6 seconds. Witnesses described the object as about twice the diameter of the moon at zenith, with a brilliant greenish-white color. The shape was egg-like with a smaller radius in front and bluish green at the rear. The object was observed at approximately 7:00 p.m. E.S.T. It appeared to pass over Cumberland, Maryland, in its flight toward Flatwoods, West Virginia, passing within 160 miles of Akron, Ohio. The object was observed at a distance of 160 miles and at an arc of 45 degrees. The flight was observed for approximately 300 miles. The object was estimated to be about 65 miles above the ground.
