Summary

On December 26, 1956, both civilian and military witnesses near DeFuniak Springs, Florida, reported a single object. The case was logged under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The object was white and egg shaped with a red tinge around the edges and looked about the size of a small grapefruit.

The object gave off very red flashes, from one tenth to one twentieth its size, and kept flashing until it went out of sight. It was first seen at 30 degrees elevation and disappeared at 45 degrees elevation while traveling west. It was watched for about 15 to 25 minutes. The course ran from southwest to west.

The report tied the sighting to a helicopter in the area, noting the timing matched a helicopter that disappeared about ten minutes before the object. The card noted the duration may have been overestimated. The evaluation given was probably aircraft.
