Summary

On August 28 to 30, 1956, a civilian in Crestone, Colorado, reported a single object on several nights. On August 28 it was watched for about one hour and fifty-nine minutes and was still in sight at the time of the report. On August 29 it was seen for about two hours and eight minutes, and on August 30 for about one hour and fifty-nine minutes.

The witness described one light orange object shaped like an airplane and about the size of a basketball held at arm's length. It was first seen at about 30 degrees elevation and 120 degrees azimuth. The object did not move but appeared slightly above the skyline of a mountain.

The Air Force said all details matched the planet Mars. The evaluation was astronomical (Mars).
