Insufficient Data

Summary

In March 1959, a man's uncle and cousin near Corsica in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, spotted an odd-shaped object hovering in the sky. The uncle watched it from his porch for about two minutes before deciding to get a better view from his yard. When he moved, he lost sight of it. The object was described as approximately 20 inches long and 6 to 7 inches in diameter, with a color that was red, wine red, or brick red. The witnesses thought it might have descended into a wooded area on the family's farm, but the uncle found nothing when he searched.

The report came to the Air Force indirectly. A relative of the witnesses wrote a letter to the Pentagon on April 15, 1959, describing what they had seen. The letter contained limited details, so the Air Force sent a more detailed questionnaire (called a U.S. Air Force Technical Information Sheet) to gather additional information. The relative completed it with help from the uncle in early June 1959. The uncle and his cousin had trouble locating the site afterward because a large wooded tract made it hard to search, and they were concerned about people trespassing on the farm property.

The Air Force's evaluation of the case is not clearly stated in the file. The brief notes on the record card suggest "Insufficient Data for Evaluation," meaning investigators did not have enough information to reach a firm conclusion. This case file consists of 12 pages of declassified material held by the National Archives.
