Summary

On August 18, 1956, a civilian in Colorado Springs, Colorado, reported a single object. The sighting was recorded at 1020Z and lasted about four minutes. It was still visible when the witness went to bed.

The witness described one round, very bright white object about the size of a silver dollar held at arm's length. The brightness varied and the object had a bouncing movement. It was first seen at about 90 degrees azimuth and 40 degrees elevation.

The Air Force noted the object was the same as one reported by the same source on August 14, 1956. The source was contacted by phone, and the object was again determined to be the planet Venus shining through a temperature inversion. The evaluation was astronomical.
