Project Blue Book Case File
Chattancoga, Penn., March 1950March 1950
Summary
This Air Force file covers two separate sightings. On March 28, 1950, around 4 p.m., two women in Chattanooga, Tennessee, reported a round, silver object in the sky heading toward the local airport. They said it suddenly disappeared. Neither could state its height or speed. A weather bureau meteorologist who was interviewed said the women had probably seen the weather balloon released by the station each day. The Air Force record (Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports) concluded this sighting was the weather balloon.
The file also includes a sighting over Santiago, Chile, on March 28, 1950. A military observer at the U.S. Embassy watched an object through field glasses from the roof for a few seconds. He said it moved in a straight line at an extreme rate of speed and appeared more white than any other color. He went to get a camera, and when he returned the object was gone. The Air Force record listed this Santiago sighting as unidentified.
