Summary

In September and December 1948, a teacher in North and South Colorado observed what he described as a bright green falling star on three separate occasions. The first sighting occurred on September 12, 1948, near Moffat, Colorado. On December 5, 1948, while traveling on U.S. Highway 160 in southern Colorado, the witness saw the object again moving horizontally and westerly at high speed. It appeared brighter and larger than before. The object was seen a third time on December 12, 1948, near Monte Vista, Colorado, appearing as a bright green falling star. The witness was interviewed on January 31, 1949. He stated the object was bright green and soundless but could not provide specific details about size, shape, location, or altitude. The investigator noted the witness appeared to have average intelligence but believed the fireball was a product of his imagination rather than a real phenomenon. Radio reports from Oklahoma and New Mexico on January 31, 1949, also mentioned fireballs.
