Summary

On January 10, 1958, near Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso, Texas, radar operators reported multiple objects. The sighting on radar lasted about 5 minutes. Between 8 and 11 objects were tracked with no regular formation but all in close proximity. They moved at 0 to 50 knots on an irregular course, generally south. Attempts to see them visually were not successful. The objects disappeared from the radar scope one at a time, about four miles south of the base, while in the vicinity of the only lake in the local area. No aircraft had been cleared for such a flight. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force considered explanations including helicopters and unusual atmospheric conditions. It concluded the evidence indicated a good possibility of a small flock of large birds.
