Bentwaters, England, December 1960December 1960
Summary
On December 22, 1960, an observer at Bentwaters in England reported a single round object. It was about the size of a half dollar held at arm's length. The center was bright green and the sides were yellowish green. The object appeared to have a rotating motion and very thin, straight, dark appendages.
The object was first seen at about 55 to 60 degrees elevation and 310 degrees azimuth. It then dropped to about 25 to 30 degrees elevation. It moved in a straight path at a high rate of speed and disappeared behind a cloud deck. The sighting lasted about 3 seconds. The source was a captain, listed as reliable.
Another observer about 4 miles away thought he saw a meteor at about the same time. The Air Force concluded the report was probably a balloon on the card box, but the comments state the description and duration are characteristic of a meteor.
