Summary

On a night in February 1959, someone in Belaire, New York saw a bright blue flashing light pass directly overhead in a matter of just two or three seconds. The observation was made from the ground during clear, calm weather.

The Air Force's investigation turned out to be limited. Investigators could not reach the original witness to get more details about what they had seen. An airdrome officer at a nearby base offered a possible explanation: the light might have been a Premier light, which were commonly used for advertising purposes throughout the area. The officer suggested this as a likely source, though investigators noted there was not enough information in the initial report to reach any firm conclusion.

The Air Force officially rated this case as "unknown" due to the lack of substantive evidence. A technical assessment prepared during the investigation stated plainly that "the information submitted is very limited in nature and cannot be evaluated."
