Summary
On July 6, 1962, a Navy control tower operator at Chase Field near Beeville, Texas, reported an object at about 2030Z. The object was in sight for about 3 to 5 seconds.
The object was round and green with a bright orange tail. It appeared at about 70 degrees elevation and disappeared gradually as it descended to about 20 degrees elevation. It flew straight and made no sound. The sky was sunny with scattered clouds.
This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the object had the characteristics of a meteor and evaluated the case as such.
