Summary

On October 29, 1957, a witness at Baker, Florida, reported one object in the sky. The witness was a student serving as a civilian ground observer. The sighting was a ground visual observation that lasted about 15 minutes around dusk.

The object was round and shining, and very brilliant. It traveled due east and stayed in sight for about 15 minutes before remaining still in the air. The sky was clear with no wind and high thin scattered clouds.

This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the object was probably a balloon. Officers said winds aloft would have carried a balloon rapidly eastward, and that sunset in the area could account for the brilliance.
