Summary

On March 26, 1956, civilian Ground Observer Corps members at Avon Park, Florida, reported many objects in daylight. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witnesses said the objects were round, about the size of a child's balloon, and shiny and reflecting. There were one hundred or more, first loosely grouped and then in a wedge formation. They moved from north to south on a direct flight path and faded out abruptly. The sighting lasted about one minute. The sky was very clear with unlimited visibility. Binoculars were used. A second similar sighting was reported nearby at the same position a little later.

The Air Force concluded the objects were birds, as identified by the observers on duty.
