Summary

On July 28, 1960, a civilian woman in Ankara, Turkey saw a strange object from her home balcony at about 9:45 p.m. local time. The sighting lasted only about 1.5 to 2 seconds. The object moved at great speed and horizontally. It was fluorescent, with a reddish tail estimated at about 1.5 meters long. It looked like fireworks but moved sideways at a higher altitude. The witness's husband later reported seeing two more objects over the next several minutes that resembled sliding stars. The husband wrote a detailed letter to the Air Force. The Air Force concluded the object had all the characteristics of a meteor.
