Summary

On November 7, 1959, a civilian drill rig operator working in a rock quarry about eight miles north-northwest of San Antonio, Texas, spotted an unusual object in the sky. The observer, considered reliable by investigators, was actually looking for the planet Venus when he noticed the UFO at roughly the same time, at an elevation of about 80 degrees and in a direction roughly southeast.

The object appeared as a small, silver-white speck, about the size of a pinhead to the naked eye. It moved in a westerly direction at first, then gradually curved toward the south. After that, it made two abrupt right-angle turns, one toward the west and another toward the north, before disappearing very quickly in a northerly direction. The entire sighting lasted about one minute.

A co-worker also witnessed the event, but investigators noted this second witness was reluctant to answer questions and spoke poor English. The preparing officer decided not to pursue the matter further with this individual.

The Air Force investigated weather conditions and contacted radar stations at Lackland Air Force Base and the San Antonio Weather Bureau. Weather on the day was fairly clear with scattered clouds and good visibility. The preliminary analysis found no probable cause for the sighting. The case file indicates the Air Force considered the object was probably aircraft, noting that many airports operated in that part of Texas and the flying weather that day was ideal.

The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, comprising seven scanned pages.
