Summary

On September 28, 1960, four military aircrew aboard an aircraft over the Pacific Ocean (about 29.32N, 125W) reported an object at 0552 (5:52 a.m.) GMT. They saw a fast moving brilliant white object. It moved south to north, traveling as fast or faster than an F-104 jet. It was first about the brightness of the Echo I satellite, faded near the horizon, then reappeared about ten times brighter, shut off abruptly after about 20 seconds, then reappeared bright until it disappeared in the north. The total sighting lasted 2 to 3 minutes. The weather was clear and the moon was not in the viewed area. The Air Force listed the case as aircraft, noting it was possibly an aircraft landing light turned on to create the reported effect.
