Summary

On June 23, 1950, near Mobile, Alabama, a witness reported an aerial sighting. A light was observed descending in a spiral pattern and fading at 8 p.m. local time. The sighting lasted 15 to 30 minutes. The object was reported at an altitude of 50,000 feet. The Air Force source, a newspaper report from an airlines pilot, noted the observation was aerial in nature. A weatherman stated the flash seen was probably a large meteorite. The official evaluation was ASTRO (Meteor).
