By memorandum dated 25 May 1973, I informed you of the results of an interview of Mr. brome reported that _ wel] an employee of the Oliice of Security, had stated during a discussion period at Advanced Intelligence Seminar A No. é in September 1971 that the Office of Security had been involved ! - in the "Ballou case. ' (The residence of Mr. Ballou, an antique gun i collector in Silver Spring, Maryland, was raided on 7 June 1971 by . Montgomery County Police and Federal law enforcement officers. . When the officers, dressed in civilian clothes, forced their way into the house, Ballou picked up an antique pistol. The officers opened fire and seriously wounded Ballou. He was hospitalized for several months and was left partially paralyzed. I believe he is now suing - over the incident.) Lo . 2. We interviewed Mr] Jeertain other employees who attended the Seminar, and thé Difector of Security to determine just L. what was said at the Seminar and the extent of any Agency involvement in the Ballow case. We find that participants in.the Seminar were i encouraged to discuss the details of their work and associated problems.
