CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY

Nonagencies Advisory Group

MEMORANDUM FOR: The Director

THROUGH : The Executive Director

SUBJECT : CIA Domestic Activities

MAG is concerned that CIA avoid involvement in the current
expose of the domestic intelligence activities of other federal agencies. We believe that there are CIA
activities similar to those under scrutiny which could
cause great embarrassment to the Agency because they never came to
stated statutory CIA/CG responsibility. MAG opposes any Agency
activity which could be construed as related activity any par-
whether or not the various in the United States. Except in
those cases clearly related to national security, to US
civilian effort, we believe the object of CIA operations. We realize
that on occasion the Agency will get information about
some citizen who is engaged in activities inimical to the
interests of the United States. Such information should quickly
be turned over to the proper agencies of government for further action, even if it means that sometimes on other
home-oriented agency may be asked to perform in a limited operational capacity overseas.

If we do not pursue such a course, one day the public
and the Congress will come to have grave doubts about our role
in government, and may severely restrict our ability to perform those tasks properly assigned to CIA.
