9 March 1973

DDI called attention to Joseph Alsop's article in today's
Washington Post, "Analyzing the CIA's Analysts," which erroneously
refers to Sam Adams as a former employee. Later in the meeting,
Houston explained why the allegation that the Agency has tried to
muzzle Adams is false. He went on to brief on [REDACTED]
commendations with Justice and the fact that the judge ruled
Adams' material was not exculpatory. In response to the Director's
question, the DDI reported that Mr. Adams has not been placed on
probation. The Director found this unsatisfactory.

Houston explained the legal implications of the subpoena
served on Thuerner for documents related to the Ellsberg case and
advised that the Director may have to claim executive privilege.

15 March 1973

Houston said that the judge squashed the subpoena served on
Thuerner (see Morning Minutes of 7 March).
