Insufficient Data

Summary

On December 21, 1957, near Waverly, Iowa, an observer reported two round white objects in the night sky. The sighting lasted about 45 seconds. The objects were said to be the size of a basketball, with one behind the other. A stream of fire trailed behind for about 2 feet or longer. The objects were seen overhead, slightly to the south, and faded out about halfway to the horizon as they dimmed. The witness wore glasses. The report went to Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the objects were probably jet aircraft with afterburners on, or possibly meteors with the duration overestimated. The case was marked as having insufficient data for analysis.
