Summary
On September 9, 1952, at around 11:47 p.m., observers near Martic Forge, Pennsylvania reported seeing an unidentified flying object at high altitude. The object appeared as a bright white light heading roughly northwest (approximately 313 degrees). The witnesses said it had a very large wing span and moved faster than any airplane they knew. They also heard a sound during the sighting that resembled a jet aircraft, lasting about fifteen seconds. The weather at the time was clear with about fifteen miles of visibility.
Although the observers claimed the object did not look like any aircraft they had ever seen, the Air Force investigator who reviewed the case concluded it was almost certainly a jet aircraft. The witnesses' descriptions, particularly the bright white light, the sound like a jet engine, and the high speed, all pointed to a conventional aircraft rather than something truly unknown. The investigator noted that while the observers insisted it was unfamiliar, their own detailed observations left "little doubt that the object was in fact an aircraft, probably a jet."
The file contains a questionnaire completed by the witnesses with technical details about what they saw, including sketches of the object's position and movement. However, the OCR reproduction is difficult to read in places, and the complete investigator's notes are not fully legible in the scanned document.
The full case file as held by the National Archives is reproduced below, comprising 11 pages of microfilm (T1206, Roll 15).
