Insufficient Data

Summary

On August 30, 1958, military radar operators at Gray Air Force Base near Killeen, Texas, reported an unidentified radar target at 1845Z, during daytime. The senior director and a sergeant tracked a target that appeared at 170 degrees azimuth, 30 miles out, and disappeared at 175 degrees, 140 miles out. The reported speed was about 3,300 knots, and the target was on radar for about 2 minutes, traveling 110 miles in that time. It showed only on IFF and was unlike any interference ever observed.

There was light air traffic in the area. The radar analyst said it was possible the equipment was not working properly, since the target appeared only on IFF and at an extremely high rate of speed. The Air Force conclusion on the Project 10073 record card was insufficient data to properly evaluate. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
