Project Blue Book Case File
Ft Worth, TexasJuly 1953
Summary
On July 9, 1953, about 2115 (9:15 p.m.), a civilian saw an object near Fort Worth, Texas. The witness was an aircraft company employee. He had just finished a church activity and was locking the front door when he saw the light to the northeast.
The object was a blue or purple, hazy, glowing light with no definite outline. It looked more like a light than a solid object. He could not estimate its size or any features. It appeared to travel at a very high speed and made no sound. It first moved to the southwest, then changed course to the west for a short distance, then turned southwest again. It maneuvered sharply once or twice, then disappeared toward the northwest. It was visible for about three or four seconds.
He thought it was about the same height as normal aircraft. The weather was hot and clear. Three other people were present and were believed to have also seen it. The location was near a lake and an aircraft plant. Investigators decided the report did not warrant further pursuit. The Air Force listed the case as astronomical, attributing the maneuvers to illusion and calling it a meteor.
