Summary

On the morning of March 6, 1950, two Army officers at Fort Bliss, Texas spotted an unusual object in the sky. First Lieutenant Philip W. Arant and Corporal Johnnie L. Adams were in an open jeep about 30 yards northwest of the flagpole when they noticed something glinting in the sunlight. The object appeared first like a star, then became visible as a light or silver-colored item. It had no discernible shape.

The men watched the object for 40 to 50 seconds as it moved very slowly toward the north from their position to the southeast. It was visible only by reflection from the sun and made no sound. The object gradually faded out of sight without any sudden movement or maneuvers. At the time of the sighting, conditions were clear and sunny, with scattered clouds at 23,000 feet and visibility of 50 miles. The temperature was 54 degrees.

The investigating officers considered both witnesses to be intelligent and trustworthy, with character above reproach. They found no radar contacts during the sighting, no aircraft in the vicinity at the time, and no evidence that any testing devices or balloons had been released in the area. No physical evidence or photographs were recovered. The Air Force ultimately classified the sighting as unidentified.
