Summary

On November 17, 1959, at 3:19 p.m., a resident of Duncanville, Texas, observed what he described as a flying saucer while looking southwest from his home near a Navy base. The object was round, metallic, and roughly the size of a small American car. It was very bright and shiny. The witness saw it move in a curved pattern, gaining speed and altitude as it flew. He heard no sound from the object. The sky was clear with excellent visibility, and a ground wind was blowing from the southwest. He watched the object for a few minutes with his mother and a friend. In a note added to his initial report, the witness stated he did not think it was a weather balloon because it moved too fast.

The witness sent a letter to the Air Force on November 18, 1959. The Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base responded on December 2, requesting a detailed questionnaire to obtain enough information for analysis. The witness completed the form, providing additional details about what he saw. On the questionnaire, the witness indicated the object appeared solid, was bright compared to the sky background, and described it as resembling a metallic object. The original record card noted that "the description is very similar to that of a weather balloon," though the witness himself disagreed with this assessment.

The case file does not contain a final Air Force conclusion regarding the object's identity. The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, consisting of 15 pages.
