Summary
On May 8, 1949, military personnel at Camp Hood, Texas reported a single diamond-shaped object in the night sky. Witnesses described it as a brilliant light that changed color from red to green to white. The object slowed down, grew dimmer, and then went out. It first headed north and then turned toward the east, and it stayed in view for about nine minutes. The report was filed on a Project 10073 record card, the U.S. Air Force's official log for unidentified flying object reports. After reviewing the sighting, the Air Force concluded that the object was a balloon.
