Project Blue Book Case File
Bracketsville, TexasJune 1953
Summary
On June 23, 1953, about 0130 (1:30 a.m.), a military member saw an object near Bracketville, Texas. The witness was a weather forecaster driving west from San Antonio with his wife.
He saw a light high to his right, which he estimated at about 50,000 feet and about ten miles away. As it came closer he could see it was oval shaped and cream colored, and it moved very fast. It tilted and began to descend at a steep angle, turned brilliant red, and streamed a substance as if it were on fire. At a low altitude it stopped its plunge, leveled off, then stopped completely and hung in the air. The whole event lasted about four seconds.
When the object stopped, the burning stream ceased and it returned to its cream color. It then made a falling-leaf or dishing motion and faded away to the west in level flight. The witness believed he had seen something unusual. His supervisor vouched for his integrity. The Air Force listed the case as astronomical, concluding he likely overestimated the object's maneuvers and that it was probably a meteor.
