Summary

On April 5, 1959, at about 1300Z (about 7 p.m. local), two civilians in Big Spring, Texas, reported an object in the night sky. The witnesses were a 33-year-old man, a petroleum maintenance technician, and a 13-year-old. Both wore glasses.

The observers were backing a car out of a driveway when they saw a round object about the size of a dime with a greenish blue glow. It was about 15 degrees above the horizon. The object traveled in a straight line from south to north and then disappeared instantly, before going out of sight over the horizon. The weather was partially clear.

The Air Force found no aircraft were flying in the area during the reporting period. The two witnesses were questioned separately and gave identical accounts. The record card concluded the witnesses probably saw a fireball.
